Using Negative Marking

About: Negative marking allows you to punish candidates for selecting wrong distractors in Multiple Choice and Multiple Response questions. This is designed to discourage guessing. Negative marking is only available for HTML tests.
Objective: After this lesson, you will know how to add negative weightings to answer options in ‘Item Authoring’. You will also understand the impact that this may have on the candidate.
Next Steps: Consider whether the negative marking is suitable for your tests. To learn more about weighted marking, see the lessons on Multiple Choice and Multiple Response items.
