Marking a Test

About: Once a test has been taken, if it contains any questions that require human marking, such as essay, file attach, or equation entry questions, it will become available to mark in the ‘Mark’ screen in the Test Administration tab. This video will explain how to assign a mark, how to view any attached mark schemes, and how to view the marking history of an item. It will also demonstrate how to submit a script once the marking is completed.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will understand how to assign a mark to an item requiring human marking, how to view mark schemes and the marking history, and be able to submit a marked script. You will also learn how to use annotations to aid the marking process.

Next Steps: Try marking a practice test for yourself, just make sure that the test has human marked items. If you have tests that are set to require moderation, take the lesson on moderating a test. Also take a look at the other lessons in the Test Administration and Delivery course.

Bulk Schedule

About: The ‘Bulk Schedule’ button within the ‘Schedule’ screen allows users to quickly and easily schedule up to 1000 candidates for a test at a single centre, or up to 3000 candidates for tests at multiple centres. This video will demonstrate how to use the bulk schedule function.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will know how to schedule candidates en masse using the bulk schedule function.

Next Steps: View the other lessons within the Test Administration module to discover what happens next after your test has been scheduled.

Printing an Invigilation Pack

About: An invigilation pack can include an attendance register, an invigilation report, and candidate keycode slips which are needed in order to access a test. You can create an invigilation pack containing all, or some of this information, either from selected tests, or using the wizard.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will be able to generate an invigilation pack from selected tests, and using the wizard. You will also know how to include and exclude some of the information from the invigilation pack if required.

Next Steps: Have a go at generating an invigilation pack for a test you have scheduled. Is all of the available information useful to you, or are there parts that you could exclude from the invigilation pack?

Downloading a Test in Advance

About: This lesson will explain how to download a test to SecureClient in advance, which can then be taken completely offline. This is particularly useful for centres that have a slow or unreliable internet connection, or if you want to ensure that candidate’s do not have to wait at the start of the session for the test to download to SecureClient.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will know how to download a test in advance so that it can be taken offline.

Next Steps: Think about whether this may be necessary for any of your associated centres. Try downloading a test in advance to become familiar with the process.

Using the Moderate screen

About: If you have specified that a test requires moderation, once the test has been sat and marked, it will move through to the Moderate tab. To moderate a test, select it in the table, then select ‘View Responses’. You will be able to view the marked test, and make any alterations required.

As well as basic moderation tools, this video will also explain how to:

  • Change the assigned mark for any computer marked or unattempted question.
  • Change the grade boundaries of tests at the moderation stage.
  • View simple analysis and reports.
  • Package a candidate’s completed test as a zip file.
  • Void a test.

Finally, this video will demonstrate how to release tests to the Results screen.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will know how to view responses in the moderate tab, and have an understanding of the features available on the moderate tab as mentioned above.

Next Steps: Try changing a mark or grade boundary at the moderation stage. Once you are comfortable with the features, try some other lessons within the Test Administration and Delivery course.

Viewing Test Results

About: Once a test has been taken, and marked and moderated if required, it will become available in the ‘Results’ screen in the Test Administration tab. This video will explain how to view results, and how to generate reports on candidate results and performance.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will understand how to view results, and how to generate reports using the Reporting Wizard, or by using previously selected candidate’s data. You will also have a basic knowledge of the different types or reports that can be generated in the Results section, from results slips to Test Breakdowns.

Next Steps: The reporting section of Surpass also contains data that you might want to analyse. Why not take the ‘Reporting’ course to discover what other reports are available? You may also want to try generating a Test Breakdown of your own.

Uploading OMR results

About: This lesson will demonstrate how to use the Upload OMR Results function in Surpass.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will be able to upload results using the Upload OMR Results function.

Next Steps: Now you have watched this session, continue watching the Test Administration course to see how tests move through Surpass.

Using the Audit Screen

About: This lesson will demonstrate the different functions available within the Audit screen of Surpass.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will be able to navigate through the Audit screen and understand the different reports made available there.

Next Steps: Now you have watched this session, continue to look at the Scheduling a Candidate Review video and take the lessons in the Reporting module.

Re-marking a Test

About: In Surpass, you can flag a test for re-marking at any point after a test has been marked (and moderated if necessary). Once a test has been flagged for re-marking it will appear in the re-mark tab, where the completed test can be viewed, and any alterations can be made to the marks assigned. This video will walk you through this process, from flagging a test for re-marking to submitting the re-marked test.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you will understand the process for re-marking a test. You will be shown how to flag tests for remark in the Audit section, and you will also have a knowledge of the re-mark functions.

Next Steps: Try flagging your tests for remark in the Audit section, and then remark them. Once you are comfortable with these features, take the other lessons in the Test Administration and Delivery course to fully understand all of the functions of the Test Administration section of Surpass.

Candidate Review

About: A candidate review session allows a candidate to access a test they have previously completed for a particular time period. You can schedule a review by visiting the ‘Test Administration’ tab. This video will demonstrates both user and candidate interactions with a candidate review.

Objective: Once you have completed this lesson, you will know how to schedule a candidate review session, edit and review the history of the session.

Next Steps: Try scheduling a candidate review session. Once you have done so, move onto the Reporting module to learn more about different data reports.
